“ Whisper ” takes Jiading, Shanghai, as its site, unfolding a ritualaround death and trauma. The derelict architecture, with its decayedtimbers and layers of dust, becomes a stage forgotten by time—afragile witness to histories lost. Within this desolate frame, theartist’s constrained body enters: entwined with brittle branches and red ribbons, moving among clusters of flowers. Every gesture is broken, delayed, and weighed down, as if by an unseen pressure. The struggle, the turn, the pause—the dance itself ignites, becominga whisper, a repressed echo vibrating within silence.
Here, narrative is not continuity but interruption. Rather than restoring memory, the work foregrounds erasure and obscurity: voices suppressed, fragments that resist articulation. Through bodily constraint, spatial dislocation, and murmured undertones, the work insists on a poetics of what cannot be said.
